The Shift

                           I
We live in a world of shifting stints.
Some people have to work in shifts;
Some are used to shifting their works.
It is easier to shift the blame on others
Than blaming the protocols of shift.
Writers shift the script to suit the stars,
Or shift the stars,to suit the script.
When persons shift their priorities,
Priorities shift persons to different places.
Shifting places,call for shifting lifestyles.
When lifestyles shift,new routines set in;
Older ones shift fast,to past calendars.
Time shifts events into folders of history;
But people shift history into their times.
                            II
While people swiftly shift their loyalties
There is a talk about ideological shifts,
Between corridors of religion and politics.
Shifting fits principles,into pockets of power;
Turncoats shift convenience into ideology,
Or ideology into convenience,without qualms;
A break in wedlock calls for a shift because,
A shift in amity leads to a ballistic break.
Unless and until there falls a rigorous rift,
There is no room for a sudden marital shift.
Ageing shifts people,as patients to the wards.
Wards at last,shift their bodies to the morgues.
Life is a serial shift from the womb to the tomb,
With or without shrift,for many shifts to bloom.
P. Chandrasekaran.
